My yoga journey started when I went on a beginner's yoga weekend in Spain in May 2016. I was amazed how yoga had the power to bring such an eclectic group of people from all different walks of life together. It wasn't until I moved to London in 2017, however, that I truly began to understand how much I wanted yoga to be a part of my life. After experimenting with about 20 different teachers, all with very different styles and teaching techniques, I finally stumbled across an Ashtanga class in my local community gym. There was no pretentiousness; no-one trying to be better than anyone else... just a group of people led through the Primary series by an excellent teacher, Nils Thomas. I was hooked! I began to complement my stronger Ashtanga practice with restorative monthly yin workshops with my very first teacher, and as my job and London life became more and more chaotic, my practice became my sanctuary.
In a particularly busy time in my life, I discovered that Fuerteventura was known as the European hub for yoga and surfing and decided to book 10 days away. One evening, I attended a class on a roof top terrace. When I stepped into the room I felt an incredible and indescribable presence that I had not felt with any other teacher before. That teacher was Enrico - and I had no idea at the time how important that first meeting was, with someone who has since become my guide, teacher, and friend.
After spending an intensive (10 hour) one to one day retreat with Enrico, we stayed in touch and a few months later out of the blue I found out that a space had become available on Enrico's first retreat in Bali (January 2019). I decided it was now or never and booked my flights to Bali, where I completed 150 hours of Kaivalya training in just 16 days. In August 2019 I flew to Italy for two further weeks to complete my Kaivalya training.
I am now back in London and I can honestly say that my life will never be the same again. Whilst I continue to work full time, I am now constantly developing my own personal practice and bringing asana, true meditation, kriyas and yogic raw vegan nutrition into my every day life. I am beginning to teach small groups here in London and share my experience and knowledge with whoever I believe could benefit from the teachings.
In all the classes I have attended in my quest to find the "perfect class" for me, I have never found anything as holistic and pure as Kaivalya yoga. The focus is bringing yoga back to its true roots, and reminding us that in a world full of yoga teachers (or should we say asana teachers) that there is so much more to the practice than the physical side. It has brought me internal peace and serenity through true meditation; sheer joy through the music and chanting; flexibility, full health and strength through the asana, body conditioning and nutrition... and ultimately has taught me to humbly bow my head to all of the great masters of yoga who have each individually played a part in shaping what yoga has become today.
